we came to California
to forget about the long flat roads
and smoke ridden chimneys. here are sunbathed
steering wheels, and sticky door handles
leading to the upstairs apartment.
I know what pine trees do.
I touch them with finger tips
I know fresh water lakes.
I've shedded clothes for them
I know no teeth and obese mouths.
How to not get lost in the superstore
and you know superstars. red, white and tan legs.
Joints rolled in palm trees and sweaty palms.
high tight and sprouted buns.
you pick up bomb shells on salty shores
put them in pails.
Meanwhile, there is still a milky glow
under my clothes
and a scar from here to here.
you are a star.
I am the air.
